This Latin bombshell has been thrilling fans of Latin music for quite a while, but this self-titled album represents her (in retrospect, seemingly inevitable) breakthrough in the U.S. It wouldn't be out of order to think of Thalia as the Latin Kylie Minogue; she's been a success on her own turf for years before her crossover to the U.S. pop market, and in addition to her sultry voice, she bears a photogenic countenance that endears her to press and television. Also like Minogue, she knows how lay down a stirring, steamy vocal over a driving dance track like some of those found on THALIA.

Though she sings in Spanish and draws on traditional roots occasionally, these tunes are powered by programmed rhythms and sleek synthesizers. Thalia can take on a ballad with impressive ease too, showing that she's more than a mere one-trick pony. This album just clues American listeners into what Thalia's longtime fans have been privy to for quite some time.
