Set on the island of Cape Verde, located off the coast of West Africa, TESTAMENTO is a touching tragicomedy about the life of that country's wealthiest citizen, Napumoceno da Silva Araujo. The film begins with his death and finds that Napumoceno, quite a Don Juan during his lifetime, left his entire fortune to an illegitimate daughter, Graca, who had never known he was her father. Among the treasures left to Graca are a series of audio tapes on which Napumoceno has recorded his life story for her. His life is then seen in a series of flashbacks, revealing the unexpected way Napumoceno acquired his fortune as well all the other lucky or unlucky occurrences of his life. A touching and gently comic look at life and its surprises, TESTAMENTO is an excellent film which provides not only an entertaining glimpse of a man's life but also a look the exotic land of Cape Verde.
