On TEMPORARY PEOPLE, Joseph Arthur's second full-length outing co-credited to his Lonely Astronauts backing ensemble, the Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter presents a set of loose, emotionally charged indie-rock tunes. Issuing no less than four EPs in the months before PEOPLE's late-2008 release, Arthur sounds surprisingly full of both ideas and passion; the collection ranges from the chiming title track to the raucous Dylanesque rave-up "Dead Savior" to the subdued "Good Friend." More than a decade after his heralded Peter Gabriel-endorsed debut, BIG CITY SECRETS, Arthur is clearly dedicated to making music on his own terms, a point hit home by this immediate and willfully eclectic album.
