Leonard Bernstein's WEST SIDE STORY has captivated audiences ever since its debut performance in 1957. This documentary takes a look behind the scenes as an impressive cast prepares for a 1984 recording of WEST SIDE STORY. With Kiri Te Kanawa, Jose Carreras, Tatiyana Troyanos, and Kurt Ollmann among the performers, and Bernstein himself assuming conducting duties for the first time, this was a very special occasion. Fortunately a camera crew were on hand to document the creative process, and this fascinating film highlights the various ups and downs that beset any production of this magnitude.
