First, Chinese composer Tan Dun discusses how he came to write his opera TEA, which blends the musical traditions of East and West, in a documentary of the same name. Then BROKEN SILENCE tells the stories of five Chinese composers--Tan Dun, Chen Qigang, Guo Wenjing, Mo Wuping, and Qu Xiaosong--and how their musical world was transformed when they discovered Western classical music in the 1970s.
