North Carolina singer/songwriter Tift Merritt debuted with the classically styled country of 2002's BRAMBLE ROSE, the culmination of nearly a decade of work on the indie alt-country scene including a stint with the hardcore honky-tonk revivalists the Two Dollar Pistols. Following the critical acclaim of BRAMBLE ROSE, Merritt returned in 2004 with the DUSTY IN MEMPHIS-styled country-soul effort TAMBOURINE. This was followed by a move from North Carolina to Paris, where Merritt wrote the reflective singer/songwriter album ANOTHER COUNTRY.
