Elizabeth & The Catapult Artist Snapshot:

Buoyed by the sultry, jazzy vocals of classically trained chanteuse Elizabeth Ziman, consummate New Yorkers Elizabeth & the Catapult coax an incredible wall of sound out of what at first glance may seem a simple blend of folk, electro, downtown jazz, and indie pop. After many near brushes with the majors were aborted by industry strife, the trio, rounded out by guitarist Pete Lelish and drummer Danny Molad, became an almost instant live must-see in the late '00s, its charged performances and distinctive tone a perfect match for the backroads clubs and coffeehouses of NYC.

Review

Rolling Stone (p.74) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "There's a drop of Sarah Vaughan and Sara Bareilles in Ziman's zippy, breezy melodies."

Title Note

Elizabeth & The Catapult: Elizabeth Ziman (vocals, melodica, piano, Fender Rhodes piano, organ, Wurlitzer organ, Mellotron, keyboards, synthesizer, vibraphone, glockenspiel, background vocals); Pete Lalish (guitar, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, dulcimer, organ, electric bass, loops, background vocals); Dan Molad (acoustic guitar, electric guitar, synthesizer, xylophone, electric bass, drums, percussion, background vocals).

Audio Mixer: Mike Mogis.

Arranger: Elizabeth Ziman.

A completely charming blend of contemporary Brooklyn indie pop attitude and the textures of vintage 1970s soft rock--imagine the Yeah Yeah Yeahs tackling Carole King's TAPESTRY--the debut album by Elizabeth & the Catapult is filled with winsome, playful pop songs. Highlights include "Race You" and "Mama's Boy," the album's bounciest tracks, although the acoustic ballad "Apathy" is equally delightful.
