One of the most musically diverse contemporary performers, Taj Mahal has played a large role in the maintenance of traditional acoustic blues. However, he does not take a traditional approach, instead incorporating the scope of a musicologist into his blending of various styles, genres, and instruments. He's been experimenting with his own brand of blues, influenced by Caribbean, African folk, jazz, gospel, pop, and so much more, for over 40 years, always maintaining a strong base in traditional county blues. This formula has met with great success, garnering the artist nine Grammy nominations and two awards for Best Contemporary Blues Album, as well as a wide fan base. Appearing here during a magical performance in the tropical paradise of St. Lucia, and accompanied by longtime collaborators the Phantom Blues Band, the depth and breadth of Taj Mahal's talent, knowledge, and skill are fully in evidence.
