Synopsis

Epic historical film, which takes place in 19th century China, about a Scottish man who holds the position of Tai-Pan (or head merchant) of both Canton and Hong Kong. The trader faces resistance from a sinister competitor and his son, who wish to end the merchant's dominance in the trade industry. "Tai-Pan" is the first American film shot completely in China. Other locations were Macau and Hong Kong.

Filmed in J-D-C Scope and Technicolor.

Feature film debut for Tim Guinee and Russell Wong.
