Synopsis

The paranoid fascism of Nazi Germany provides the backdrop for this story about Hamburg's youth and their love for restricted American music -- music often written and played by both Blacks and Jews.
Peter and Thomas, "swing kids" who listen to jazz even though it's illegal, get drawn into Nazi Youth. Peter, who enlisted only to save his life, manages to resist their brainwashing; but Thomas, who joined just to stay by Peter, finds the movement increasingly seductive.
As the paths of the two boys diverge, their friendship disintegrates, leading to a violent, dangerous betrayal.

Swing Kids

In 1939, Nazi Germany declares war on freedom and demands conformity from its youth. But a group calling themselves Swing Kids rebel with their "swing music" from America. When two of them dare to stand up against the powerful forces around them -- traditions will be broken and loyalties must be crossed! Robert Sean Leonard (DEAD POETS SOCIETY) and Christian Bale (SHAFT, AMERICAN PSYCHO) deliver gripping performances as two friends who must choose between their individual freedom or loyalty to the murderous Third Reich. Also featuring screen favorite Barbara Hershey (BEACHES, TIN MEN), SWING KIDS is an inspirational and powerful story about friendship -- and finding the courage to fight for what you believe in!

Product Notes

Two friends are forced to choose either harsh punishment for their individuality and love for banned swing music or safety through compliance with the hated Nazis.
