With 2008's SWIMMER, the Standard once again reinforces its status as a sorely underrated indie-rock act, offering up a moody and engaging collection of songs. Fronted by plaintive-voiced singer/guitarist Tim Putman, the Portland, Oregon-based ensemble combines atmospheric post-rock/shoegaze elements into its often-melancholy sound, as best heard on the dark, urgent "Through the Walls."
