Album Description

The pop underground was a much lonelier place in 2004 than it was in 1990. Lisa Mychols was there for the scene's birth with her band the Masticators, and a decade later, the sun-kissed California native wrote the era a love letter. Take Danielle Dax's most danceable moments, stir in the big-sister charm of Jill Sobule, and filter it through The Real Ramona-era Throwing Muses and you have the deliciously road-trip-worthy Sweet Sinsations. Mychols has made a big grin of a record, and her enthusiasm for the material, as well as top-notch performances from an army of Los Angeles' finest, help to soften the sugary blow of perfect pop moments like "Turn the Radio On" and "Living Doll." There may be no grandiose statements, instant classics, or angst-fueled calls to arms on Sweet Sinsations, but candy tastes good no matter what your mood.
