When the musical version of SWEENEY TODD, a thriller which takes place in Victorian England, premiered on Broadway in 1979, it was a critical and commercial hit. The musical went on to win several Tony and New York Drama Critics Circle Awards. Here, it is recorded as a staged concert starring the great diva Patti Lupone as Mrs. Lovett and acclaimed stage actor George Hearn as Sweeney Todd. The stunning music is performed by the San Francisco Symphony under the assured hand of Rob Fisher.
