In these recordings from the late 1980s, Henry Rollins, former frontman of the seminal L.A. punk band Black Flag, goes out on his own in the most literal way. SWEATBOX is a collection of solo spoken-word pieces recorded live, and they showcase Rollins's fearless humor and his idiosyncratic intellect. Among the bits here are Rollins's imagined appearance on Letterman, an all-too-vivid discussion of masturbation, and stories from the road and about living in Los Angeles. And despite his intimidating demeanor, Rollins remains thoughtful and self-effacing throughout. The remastered reissue of this disc is a particular treat both because of the uneven sound quality of the original and because it includes a bonus track, "My Little Friend."
