Gravity Kills burst onto both the industrial rock and pop worlds at practically the same time propelled by the undeniable hit song "Guilty." The then unknown band's song was an immense hit at KPNT in the foursome's native St. Louis and in a flash (or within months) the band was signed to TVT, the song popping up all over the nation's airwaves and the video in heavy rotation at MTV. While the popularity supernova and the band's markedly accessible sound, heavily reminiscent of PRETTY HATE MACHINE-era Nine Inch Nails, may have turned off some hardcore industrial fans, it's hard to deny Gravity Kills' knack for writing catchy, yet hard-driving songs.

Its third album, SUPERSTARVED, sees Gravity Kills continuing to evolve out of the simple NIN world of its first self-titled album with undeniable hooks. SUPERSTARVED hovers somewhere in between early-90's pop-industrial and late-90's rap-metal; surprisingly underivative, a unique and unexpected originality permeates their work. Particularly inescapable is the overwhelming force of "One Thing," which starts with a riff out of a Ned's Atomic Dustbin book as envisioned by The Dust Brothers before unleashing a firestorm of bridled fury. Also of note is a cover of Depeche Mode's "Personal Jesus," while a logical choice, they put a beguiling spin on the classic tune.
