Title Note

When "indie-rock" became a viable commercial entity in the early 2000s, many a tear was shed for the pioneering bands of the '80s and '90s who invented the template for the genre but never got their due. One of those underrated bands was Boston's Big Dipper, who wrote catchy but unpredictable tunes with a candy heart and a gritty exterior.

Their talent is crystallized in their most successful song, "Faith Healer," with its breathtaking, harmony-laden chorus tempered by a vaguely sinister bass line and a tense, neurotic beat. Other highlights include the sweet "She's Fetching," an ode to a girl who doesn't yet feel her power, and the insanely catchy "All Going Out Together," a lovely power-pop paean to the nuclear holocaust. This anthology--three discs of re-mastered material--will appease old fans and impress new ones. The package includes voluminous liner notes and a video.
