The Romantics include: Jimmy Marinos (vocals, drums).
The Romantics today are known for two things: those horrifying red leather suits they're wearing on the cover of their debut album and the single "What I Like About You." A perfect example of a hit single that wasn't, this Sir Douglas Quintet-style garage-punk raveup was not a Billboard smash, but every single person in America of a certain age knows it by heart, and it simply will not leave radio ads and TV commercials. Constantly on the verge of being killed by overexposure, "What I Like About You" is nevertheless a deathless power pop classic. The other nine songs on this budget compilation are much less well-known, although 1983's "Talking In Your Sleep" was actually a much bigger hit and 1979's wonderful "Tell It To Carrie" is much beloved by pop afficionados. Most of their other songs sound like Tom Petty by way of the Raspberries, which is actually not such a bad thing.
