Personnel: Eric Burdon (vocals); Aalon (guitar); Randy Rice (bass); Alvin Taylor (drums).

Recorded at Record Plant, San Francisco, California. STOP was recorded at Far Out Studios, Los Angeles, California and Dieter Dierks Studios, Cologne, Germany. Includes liner notes by Barry Alfonso.

STOP:

Personnel: Eric Burdon (vocals); John Sterling, Aalon (guitar); Terry Ryan (keyboards); Kim Kesterson, Randy Rice (bass); Alvin Taylor (drums, percussion); George Suranovich (drums); Moses Wheelock (percussion).

Every 10 years or so, Eric Burdon heads into the studio and re-records the songs which first made him famous in the mid-'60s as the leader of the Animals. He's been doing this for so long that these recordings are themselves being reissued.

SUN SECRETS and STOP, first released in the UK in 1974 and 1975, do have some fresh material, including covers of such unexpected songs as "Ring of Fire" and some new Burdon compositions, but the main attractions here are Burdon's remakes of such Animals hits as "It's My Life," "When I Was Young" and "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood." The more varied material on STOP works a little better, although an attentive listener can date these recordings almost to the week based on their extremely mid-'70s-style arrangements.
