Crocodiles Artist Snapshot:

San Diego's Crocodiles are a duo comprising Charles Rowland on guitar and synth and Brandon Welchez on programming and vocals. The two play feedback-drenched indie rock that conjures the ghost of Jesus and Mary Chain. Song titles like "I Wanna Kill" and "Summer of Hate" belie the sweet pop melodies and enticing, noise-enriched punk-pop ethos that makes up the band's aesthetic. A series of 7-inch singles preceded a deal with Fat Possum Records, which released the group's debut full-length, SUMMER OF HATE, in 2009.

You might feel the need to check the passports of Californian duo Crocodiles while listening to their debut album, SUMMER OF HATE, as their sound owes a significant debt to '80s U.K. post-punk, particularly the pop-wrapped-in-fuzz sound of the Jesus & Mary Chain. Electronics play a part too, though, and there's a bit of Suicide in the buzzing synth grooves that throb insistently beneath the feedback howls, distortion-laden riffs, and hazy vocals of Crocodiles.
