Noisy, brash, and ebulliently tuneful, Montreal's Mark Sultan draws on a variety of classic American music forms--garage, rockabilly, punk, R&B--for 2007's SULTANIC VERSES, continuing the hot songcraft of his one-man band, BBQ. Ironically, his "solo" album includes some guest musicians and overdubs, but the primitive spark is still in full force, as is Sultan's unexpected and somewhat eerie vocal likeness to the great Sam Cooke.
