Moody and atmospheric, this 2007 release finds Calla dimming the lights and lulling listeners with dark tales of longing and emotional paralysis. The band employs heavy riffage, light acoustic guitars, neo-psych textures, and the most expressive drumming (and drum samples) in indie rock. Although they sustain a somber mood throughout, there is enough variety to keep things interesting, like the punk shuffle "Bronson," the grinding and hooky "Simone," and the murky dub of "Malicious Manner."
