Review

Mojo (Publisher) (p.115) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "Singer-songwriter Moore, from Kentucky, has a clear, true, tender voice and a sweet simplicity to his songs that lure you in..."

Title Note

Personnel: Dmm (vocals, guitar); Jesca Hoop (vocals); George Doering (mandolin); Petra Haden (violin); Lee Thornburg (French horn, trombone, euphonium); Earl D. Moore (piano); Steven Aho (vibraphone); Justin Meldal-Johnsen (upright bass, electric bass); Frank Coglitore (upright bass); Eric Solomon, Matt Sherrod, Victor Indrizzo (drum).

The debut album by Kentucky-based singer-songwriter Daniel Martin Moore is a lovely, quiet slice of alt-folk based primarily on Moore's vocals and acoustic guitar. Producer Joe Chiccarelli adds other instruments sparingly but effectively on tracks like "That'll Be The Plan," but for most of the record, Moore's gentle guitar and near-whispered voice are the only elements, which makes for a compellingly intimate listen. The effect at times recalls the jazz-tinged folk of Nick Drake, pre-Everything But the Girl Ben Watt, and John Martyn.
