Review

Rolling Stone (p.82) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "'Who Needs Who More' takes off like the Byrds' 'Eight Miles High' in a funnel cloud....Passionate, yowling guitar rock at its best."

Title Note

Personnel: Ryan Sambol (vocals, guitar, harmonica); Greg Enlow (guitar); Orville Neeley (piano); Philip Sambol (bass instrument); Matt Hammer (drums).

Listeners familiar with labels like In The Red and Dusty Medical should have an inkling of what to anticipate on this semi-eponymous LP by the ramshackle Austin, Texas, quartet. Melodic garage rock and loose punk combine for 16 songs by a group of smart-aleck slackers who, like the Black Lips, could create perfect pop, but would rather mess around the line between brilliance and recklessness. Frontman Ryan Sambol and his band sometimes reveal their higher aspirations, however, especially coming close to the poignant hedonism of BLONDE ON BLONDE-era Dylan during "This Girl Taught Me A Dance."
