The source of the material for the screenplay was the "Diary of Adele Hugo" ("Le Journal d'Adele Hugo"), edited by Frances V. Guille.

Actor/writer Bruce Robinson, who plays Lieutenant Albert Pinson, later went on to direct such films as "Withnail & I" (1987) "How to Get Ahead in Advertising" (1989) and "Jennifer 8" (1992), as well as writing the screenplays for "The Killing Fields" (1984) and "Fat Man and Little Boy" (1989).
