Title Note

Personnel: Baby Face Willette (organ); Grant Green (guitar); Ben Dixon (drums).

Producer: Alfred Lion.

Recorded at the Van Gelder Studio, Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey on May 22, 1961.

Personnel: Baby Face Willette (organ); Grant Green (guitar); Ben Dixon (drums).

Audio Remasterer: Rudy Van Gelder.

Though he remains largely obscure, Baby Face Willette was, in his way, as unique a jazz-organ stylist as Jimmy Smith or Jack McDuff. On his sophomore outing from 1961, STOP AND LISTEN, Willette displays a visceral, blues-based style that lends itself well to swinging hard-bop/soul-jazz tunes like "Work Song" and the title track, but also shows a more sophisticated side, laying into such standards as "They Can't Take That Away From Me."
