Title Note

Steppin Across the U.S.A., Vol. 3 seems to zero in on the late '70s and '80s, featuring songs that will actually get stepping aficionados on the floor. Like the other volumes, this is not sequenced in chronological order and often spans decades at a time. The oldest track, Gabor Szabo's "Keep Smiling," produced by Bunny Sigler, is itself worth the admission. Hubert Laws' "Family" may give credence to the fact that the most elegant stepping music did indeed come from the late '70s. Like the other sets, Steppin Across the U.S.A., Vol. 3 throws in a few rare tracks to please collectors. The rarest gem here has to be Hinton Battle and his 1984 song "Super Cautious Girl." Bernard Wright's "Won't You Let Me Love You" is right behind it. Believe it or not, those aren't the biggest surprises here. Ray Parker's ambient instrumental flip side from his 1987 Geffen album After Dark, "After Midnight," is a brilliant addition; it is well loved and always garnered lots of radio play. One of the better and interesting volumes of the series, Steppin Across the U.S.A., Vol. 3 should appease stepping fans and collectors alike with its rare finds. ~ Jason Elias
