Saves The Day Artist Snapshot:

One of the most popular bands of the early-2000s emo scene, Saves The Day hails from New Jersey, and began recording in the '90s, while they were still teenagers. The lineup of the band was significantly altered following the release of their first indie album, 1998's CAN'T SLOW DOWN. As the band's sound and audience solidified, they found themselves in the big leagues by the time of their 2003 release, IN REVERIE, with their smarter-than-average blend of punk, pop, and emo reaching more ears than ever.

This pop-punk outfit started out young--VERY young. They were still in their teens when they released their first album, and this one--their third--naturally finds them still flush with youthful enthusiasm but bearing distinct signs of songwriting maturity. There's no slowdown of excitement on STAY WHAT YOU ARE--the band still practices four-on-the-floor, heavy-guitar punk-pop a la Green Day or Blink-182. But their lyrical smarts put them in a place somewhere in between those two bands; smarter and more purposeful than the latter and minus the ballads-with-strings moves of the former. Although the pace seldom lets up from blazing guitars, pounding drums, and proud, loud, and snotty vocals, there's a discernible intelligence at the heart of the songs that lets the listener know that Saves the Day put a fair amount of thought into the tunes on STAY WHAT YOU ARE.
