Grammy Award winner Michael Giacchino tries his hand at the hallowed franchise.

Rebooting a 40-year franchise is no easy task. Yet LOST mastermind JJ Abrams has taken STAR TREK under his wing to update the futuristic space saga as a prequel, pitting younger incarnations of iconic characters like Kirk and Spock against an alien menace, before the launch of the original 1960s television series. Grammy and Emmy Award-winning composer Michael Giacchino (LOST, RATATOUILLE, CLOVERFIELD) was tapped to provide a fresh, energetic score to the new film. Taking a cue from David Arnold and the James Bond prequel CASINO ROYALE, Giacchino's music is completely new and only brings the classic theme music into the score during the closing credits. STAR TREK is a hallowed franchise, with the likes of James Horner, Jerry Goldsmith, and Alexander Courage setting the past musical backdrops. This is a tall order for Giacchino, but his vibrant incidental themes weave into the canon seamlessly.
