John Paul Keith is an industry vet whose previous acts all glimpsed varying degrees of alt-rock success without ever landing the real deal. While SPILLS AND THRILLS might not provide JPK with his long sought ticket to ride, there's an organic homespun feel to the songs here that finds the ace journeyman simply kicking back and having a rollicking good time. Honky-tonk laments, revved up first generation rock & roll, and a little southern power pop all vie for space as JPK spins tales of late nights and fast times. His able backers, the One Four Fives, help give the album the kind of loosey-goosey feel that really only comes from truly tight players.
