Born Robert Wilson, the Atlanta-based R&B singer Bobby Valentino began his performing career in his teens as a member of the short-lived mid-1990s group Mista. Eventually Valentino launched his solo career under the guidance of Ludacris and his Disturbing Tha Peace label, resulting in the well-received albums BOBBY VALENTINO and SPECIAL OCCASION. In 2008, Valentino formed his own label, Blu Kolla Dreams, and issued his third full-length album, THE REBIRTH, which benefited from production by Raphael Saadiq.

Featuring production work from a cast of hitmakers that includes Timbaland, Dre & Vidal, Don Vito, Tim & Bob, Sean Garrett, and Rodney Jerkins, SPECIAL OCCASION has its share of both sultry slow-jams and catchy club bangers. Ludacris and Fabolous drop guest verses as well.
