Review

Magnet (p.94) - "The title track is an example of Dondero's rural songcraft. He spins a twisting, verbose tale in a dejected voice while acoustic guitar, pedal steel and subtle south-of-the-border horns provide accompaniment."

Title Note

Personnel include: David Dondero (vocals, guitar); Tom Heyman (guitar); Chris Heinrich (pedal steel guitar); Mike Vasquez (trumpet); Eric Bachman (keyboards); Dan Carr (double bass); Craig D (drums).

Recording information: Sweat Box Studio, Austin, Texas (12/2004).

The peripatetic singer-songwriter David Dondero's sixth solo album is a collection of starkly sublime acoustic and ambient folk vignettes, confessions, and epiphanies. Dondero's oblique yet observant lyrics get to the heart of the matter time and again on songs encompassing the self-aware "You Shouldn't Leave a Lover Alone Too Long," the finely wrought "Brownsville Revival," and the evocative title track.
