The three-volume Soul Grooves series from ITP is too esoteric (and occasionally crazily obscure to a fault) to recommend to anyone but the most seasoned soul fan who knows what she or he is getting into. Each volume bounces between the '60s and '70s with an assortment of rarely compiled cuts, plenty of which have been championed only by soul fanatics willing to shell out triple figures to pick up original 45s. The first volume of the series includes Carl Henderson's "Sharing You," Sly, Slick & Wicked's "Tonight's the Night," the Superbs' "Neither One of Us," the Debonaires' "Every Once in a While," and Garland Green's "If You Think You're Lonely Now." ~ Andy Kellman
