Title Note

Shouldn't a best-of the '60s CD only include songs from the '60s? Last time you checked, "Lonely Teardrops" came out in 1958, and "Only You," by the Platters, was released in 1955. Despite these errors, Soul Classics: Best of the 60s, which is an assortment of soul from all corners, makes for good listening. The smooth baritone of Jerry Butler makes the message of "Only the Strong Survive" that much more real. Billy Gordon wails like a crazed man on "Do You Love Me" (the Contours' most successful record). The delightful rhythms of "I Can't Help Myself" by the Four Tops will make you want to boo-ga-loo. And when will record companies start crediting "I Sold My Heart to the Junkman" to the Starlets, who actually recorded the song, and not Patti LaBelle & the Bluebelles? ~ Andrew Hamilton
