Austin's Meat Purveyors have been hawking their idiosyncratic brand of high-speed, bawdy, alcohol-fueled bluegrass-punk since 1998's SWEET IN THE PANTS, but this 2006 release finds them reinventing themselves, as least partly, as an electric band, with tracks like "Hanged Man," with its ominous-sounding Bo Diddley beat, and their feisty remake of Loretta Lynn's "Fist City." Cries of "Judas!" are premature, however--songs like "The Look on Your Face" are typically snarky Meat Purveyors material, delivered with their characteristic folksy, aw-shucks twang.
