Trumpeter Randy Brecker and saxophonist Michael Brecker have been churning out albums, both as session men and as leaders, since the 1970s, with a particular taste for funky jazz fusion. That taste has only become more refined over the years, and their respective chops more dazzling, as 2006's SOME SKUNK FUNK demonstrates. Reaching into their back catalogue, the brothers serve up some Brecker classics, keeping the styles in flux by applying traditional swing, hard bop, Latin, world, and pop flavors. SOME SKUNK FUNK works as both an introductory retrospective and a vital original document of the Brecker brothers' talent.
