Title Note

The third volume in Norton Records' four-part MISSING LINKS series of Link Wray rarities and unreleased tracks, 1996's SOME KINDA NUT is one of the set's most consistent entries. Focusing almost entirely on Wray's mid-'60s output, with a couple of early-'60s outtakes and the self-plagiarizing "Rumble '69" thrown in, SOME KINDA NUT examines an era when the pioneering rock guitarist was casting about for a viable new direction at a time when instrumental rock was nowhere near its previous peaks of popularity. The 22 tracks here range from a cover of "Please Please Me" to the touchingly pleading title "Remember the Twist." Also included are both sides of four singles Wray and his Wraymen recorded under four different pseudonyms in an apparent effort to fool radio programmers.

This CD issue of the original vinyl incarnation adds six tracks, including a Spanish-flavored cover of the Beatles' "And I Love Her" and the near-psychedelic "Mindbower."
