Review

Kerrang (Magazine) (p.50) - "[T]his is live music made by a special kind of band....At its best there are still few bands who can touch this."

Title Note

Recording information: The Ahoy Arena, Rotterdam, Holland (2007).

Since returning from an extended hiatus that began in the late 1990s, Rush have become quite the concert tour documentarians. Previously, the band spaced out their live offerings, making each significantly era-defining. SNAKES & ARROWS LIVE marks a new trend with the Canadian progressive rockers, who have now released three multi-disc live sets in just five years.

Also worth notable mention is the trio's most recent full-length (2007's SNAKES & ARROWS), getting the lion's share of focus and comprising a full third of the set list. Clearly this is a testament to the group's confidence in and enthusiasm for their newest material. As for the other tracks included, Rush dusts off "Circumstances" (from 1978's HEMISPHERES), while curiously excluding any songs from POWER WINDOWS (1985) or PRESTO (1989) on this outing.

Principally staying faithful to original arrangements, the band presents flawless performances, much to the delight of the Dutch crowd in attendance for the two shows represented on LIVE. Forty years after their inception, Rush show no sign of slowing down or resting on their laurels.

Rush – Snakes and Arrows

Some say that much can be written of legends; I however do not share in that adage so I’ll keep this brief. Rush, the epic Canadian rock act that helped spear head the prog rock movement, released there first semblance of original material in five years, stamped with the label Snakes and Arrows.

Geddy Lee and Neil Peart explode on this album as per usual giving it that prog rock all that Geddyheads will melt over. If you’re looking for a new style or some incredible reach for innovation, you won’t find it here. What you will find however is the all to perfect sound that the canuck boys created, perfected and drive home with skill and style to this day. For a skill lesson check out Lifeson and Peart go to work on “Malignant Narcissism”

Favorite Songs: “Malignant Narcissism”, “Freewill”, “The Spirit of Radio”

Sure they are considered by Canucks to have legendary status but face it, they have not evolved since then.. and pretty much suck.
