Title Note

A notable artist within the Los Angeles Smell scene, Jeremy Jay recalls a curious hybrid of lo-fi indie-pop and danceable post-punk, making SLOW DANCE's release on the K label feel quite appropriate. The skeletal traces of early rock-&-roll guitar tones and general strong structure, as channeled through Jay's detached post-modern minimalism, give the album its core allure. "Breaking the Ice" is one example of his knack for turning formulas inside out; its pitter-pat drumming and far-off synthesizers render the song akin to either a morbid dance tune or a purposefully rough outtake of a classic '50s chart-topper. In a nutshell, both Jay and SLOW are simultaneously funky and preciously nerdy, and never less than beguiling.
