Lisa Germano is unparalleled as a chronicler of sorrow. Her sleepy little-girl-with-a-head-cold voice is capable of communicating emotion with intensity and intimacy. As a songwriter, Germano pulls as much power from only three chords as Chuck Berry did--though to much different effect. Her music is just as irresistible. Such songs as "If I Think Of Love" and "Reptile" will have you hitting the "replay" button well into the wee hours.
SLIDE is Germano at her best. The quirky instrumentation includes violins, guitars, and harmonium; many of the songs are absolutely beautiful. Though much has been said about SLIDE being Germano's most optimistic disc, it still seems more ironic than sincere when she sings about "having fun."
