Many contemporary country artists have tackled an album's worth of old-school country classics in an opportunistic way, but Patty Loveless comes by her roots honestly on SLEEPLESS NIGHTS. These are the songs she heard from her music-loving parents in her Kentucky childhood, and the songs she sang with her brother in a youthful duo. It also doesn't hurt that she has an unerring ear for picking the right material. So when she rips into such evergreens as George Jones' upbeat, rockabilly-tinged "Why Baby Why," or Carl & Pearl Butler's temptation-of-perfidy tune "Don't Let Me Cross Over," she comes at them with a heart full of country soul, a real sense of history, and a passion for recreating the kind of emotional impact those songs had on her own life.

Superb album one of her best if not the best. Good mix of old & new. Title track is probably one of the best title tracks of any album heard in a long while.

Patty is by far my favorite country singer. Her songs go from honky-tonk to tender ballads, and her voice is perfect for both. I especially love her ballads- shes got such a powerful voice and such great country soul. Highly recommended, her previous albums are also some of my favorites.
