By the time of this incredible debut, Mike Bones had already blazed a trail through the New York City music scene, with sizzling guitar chops that recall in equal parts Johnny Thunders and Duane Allman. The bomb dropped by THE SKY BEHIND THE SEA's nine tracks--with nary a guitar solo--proves that the gifted guitarist can also write a song. THE SKY BEHIND THE SEA is a literate record, showcasing lyrics about love, hate, and everything in between that hold up outside of the music as readable literature, and inside the music as mesmerizing vehicles that advance the melody.

Any doubters should listen to the lead-off track "Love's Not Yours," a kiss-off to a washed-up hipster as harrowing as "Like A Rolling Stone," but more subtle. The hipster could be Bones himself, or any number of would-be Bukowskis working the local coffee counter. By the time listeners get to track three, "Pope John Paul," they will be hooked.
