CD Buyer's Guide - "The remastering job is great"

Title Note

Producers: Dwight Twilley, Phil Seymour, Robin Cable, Bob Schaper.

Reissue Producer: Cherly Pawelski.

Includes liner notes by Dwight Twilley.

The Dwight Twilley Band is one of the great, lost rock groups. Though the "band" consisted of only Twilley (guitar, keyboards and lead vocals) and Phil Seymour (drums, bass and vocals), the duo's blend of lush, harmony-laden melodies, churning guitar riffs and tasty pop hooks was undoubtedly the best thing to come out of Tulsa, Oklahoma in the mid-'70s. SINCERELY is, in all ways, a classic rock album. The sexy T-Rex-style strut of songs like "I'm On Fire" alternates with the Byrds-informed chime of "You Were So Warm." Minor key psychedelia in the title track gives way to hopped-up rockabilly in "TV" and the breathy crooning of "Release Me."

Twilley and Seymour deliver equal parts gutsy rock and roll and finely-crafted pop gems. The results put them in the same ballpark as Big Star (a band the Twilleys resemble--though they retain enough of a unique edge to avoid unfavorable comparisons). Though the Dwight Twilley Band seemed fated to obscurity, the strength of their material, and this album in particular, has gained them a following among revivalists and lovers of classic pop.
