On their self-titled debut album, Latin pop duo Sin Bandera treats listeners to an enticingly slick slice of modern pop music that, were it not sung in Spanish, could easily be charting with the best work of any number of American or British hit makers. Both Mexican Leonel Garcia and Argentine Noel Schajris are possessed of exquisitely smooth singing voices that would be the envy of any boy band. Unlike most boy bands, however, these guys write all their own songs. Apart from the language, occasional nylon-string guitar, and a stray percussion instrument here and there, there is little noticeable Latin music influence anywhere on SIN BANDERA. Rather, this is pure American pop, from the slow-jam hip-hop beats to the emotive vocals and velvety production.
