One has to give Mr. Rogers's credit: he's still true to his sound, and no one can accuse him of bandwagon jumping. There's no dance mixes, no remixes, no production trickery--Rogers continues to mine the vein of smooth, country-flavored contemporary pop that's served him long and well since the 1980s. His earthy, slightly world-weary voice still commands attention, he chooses tunes well and his tasteful musical backing provides him with the proper shades of yearning and wistfulness (and a touch of twang). Rogers is joined by guests--the gorgeous bluegrass stylings of Alison Kraus and the deep, down-home voice of Billy Dean are particularly notable--on several tracks. There are a couple of standards here that fit Rogers like a glove: the dreamy pop gem "Let It Be Me" and Tom Jans' oft-covered "Lovin' Arms." WILD HORSES is sure to please Kenny Rogers fans.
