Title Note

A selection of Stan Getz's bossa nova-era recordings with Astrud Gilberto, Sessions on Verve samples liberally from the classic LPs Getz/Gilberto (though the Gilberto in the title is actually Joao) and the live Getz Au Go Go. It's indeed a little criminal to break up such an excellent record as Getz/Gilberto (the tracks they didn't appear on together are naturally absent), since the record should be heard in its entirety by anyone with an interest in the material. And this collection's four varying versions of "Corcovado" and two versions of many other songs may frustrate those looking simply for a pleasant listen. Still, this is an excellent way for Astrud Gilberto fans to hear her contributions to a few albums that didn't appear under her name. (Most completists or Getz fans will want the four-disc set The Bossa Nova Years (Girl from Ipanema)). ~ John Bush
