Led Bib Artist Snapshot:

British avant-garde jazz ensemble Led Bib is a progressive, stylistically-varied group that touches on everything from swinging post-bop to skronky free jazz and a healthy dose of neo-prog and noise rock. Formed in 2003 by drummer/composer Mark Holub, and drawing on such inspirations as saxophonist Ornette Coleman, downtown firebrand John Zorn, free jazz icon Sun Ra, and even '60s psych-rocker Captain Beefheart, Led Bib released its debut album ARBORETUM on Slam in 2005. It was its third album which broke the band to a wider audience when it was, somewhat surprisingly, listed as a finalist for the U.K.'s Mercury Prize.

On its 2009 album, SENSIBLE SHOES, the London-based jazz ensemble Led Bib deftly balances the experimental with the melodic, resulting in an engaging and adventurous outing. While the band makes forays into noisy, John Zorn-like territory (see "Sweet Chill"), it also makes room for mellower moments, as on the fascinatingly melancholy "Water Shortage."
