Whether it's the scuffle with the law that broke out at one of their shows in Texas and the subsequent night spent in jail, or the months of continuous touring and rigorous live shows, something is clearly eating at Two Gallants on THE SCENERY OF FAREWELL. While their first two full-lengths introduced the Bay Area duo as an inverted, angular take on high-energy swamp boogie, this EP reveals a stark, more plaintive side of the band. The roots-rock core is still there, but singer/guitarist Adam Stephens has mellowed the attack considerably. While not as bracing as their Saddle Creek debut, THE SCENERY OF FAREWELL has many stellar moments, including the fantastic lead-off, "Seems Like Home To Me," and the heartbreaking "Lady."
