With exquisite detail, the movie recreates the havoc and mayhem that was the storming of Normandy beach and all the action and realism is captured in these astounding photographs. In a large format, similar in size to the visual moviebooks on Evita and Titanic, Saving Private Ryan is presented in three parts: Part I: The Men. Stunning photos capture Spielberg's recreation of the action at Normandy beach, and are shown alongside the historical photos which inspired him. Text is drawn from the words of Churchill, Eisenhower, Bradley, from the letters of real soldiers, historical documents, manuals and maps as well as from the works of the acclaimed historian, Stephen Ambrose, who also served as consultant on the movie. Part II. The Mission. James' powerful studies of the squad of eight soldiers, led byTom Hanks, as they try and fulfill their mission arc accented by extracts drawn from the screenplay. Part III. The Movie. Behind-the-scenes photos of the film-makers at work -- in England at boot camp, on the beaches of Ireland -- are combined with interviews with Spielberg, actors Hanks, Burns, Sizemore, and others, screenwriter Robert Rodat, producer Ian Bryce, production designer Tom Sanders, and cinematographer, Janusz Kaminski (Schindler's List.)
