A virtual institution of crushing, old school black metal, Desaster has been bashing away since 1988. Never ones for musical evolution, Desaster on its 2008 release, 666-SATAN'S SOLDIERS SYNDICATE, sounds precisely the way an album with that title should. Guitars rip like a swarm of locusts and the drums hit like bleached, splintered thighbones. The title track is a classic, Celtic Frost-like statement of purpose, willfully primitive and as caustic as a sandstorm. "Hellbangers" picks up the pace with a crossover thrash tempo, and "Fate Forever Flesh" kicks up a cyclone. Desaster is not for the local pastor, but headbangers should enjoy it.
