Title Note

SAP contains the hidden track "Love Song" which is not listed on the CD.

Alice In Chains: Jerry Cantrell (vocals, guitar); Layne Staley (vocals); Michael Starr (bass); Sean Kinney (drums, percussion).

Additional personnel: Chris Cornell, Mark Arm (vocals): Ann Wilson (background vocals).

Recorded at London Bridge Studios, Seattle, Washington.

Prior to the sessions for the group's hugely successful DIRT album (eventually issued in 1992), Alice In Chains surprised its largely heavy metal audience with a five-song all-acoustic EP entitled SAP. Released in the fall of 1991 during the height of "Seattle mania," SAP's mellow mood couldn't have been more different from the red-hot rock releases by such heavy hitters as Nirvana, Soundgarden, and Pearl Jam.

Surprisingly, the acoustic sound fits Alice In Chains well, as evidenced by such strong compositions as "Brother" and "Got Me Wrong" (both featured guest Ann Wilson of Heart on back-up vocals). But the EP's undisputed highlight is the moody "Right Turn," which features cameo vocal spots by the great Chris Cornell from Soundgarden and Mudhoney's Mark Arm. SAP set the stage perfectly future acoustic Alice releases as 1994's JAR OF FLIES and 1996's UNPLUGGED.
